Well, despite all the nurses fawning over Cameron and constantly checking out his groin, he was released from the hospital about 10:30 this morning. Most of the nurses and staff remembered us from November and all of them hope to not see us a third time. Cameron is much better off this time than last - not sure if they gave him less sedatives or what, but he was much more alert and awake when they brought him back to his room and right now he's pacing around the house...
Most people have four veins leading in and out of their heart (some have five) and this is where the misfiring nerves are located. In November, they performed the ablation procedure in each of these four veins. Of the four, the misfiring nerves had returned in three of his veins (as the doc put it, "Cameron has some tough veins). After ablating the trouble-makers, Dr. Rodrigues waited an extra long time in the procedure room to make sure none of them started misfiring again. Now we play the waiting game again to see if they heal properly. After the procedure, most patients are typically on the medication for three months and then get weaned off. Dr. Rodrigues was pretty aggressive and only waited a month with Cameron after the first procedure - which is when he had his first A-fib episode again on New Year's Eve. Dr. Rodrigues wants to only wait a month again this time and we are a little hesitant because of what happened last time. We are going to try and get the opinion of Dr. Warner (the cardiologist we first saw) just to make sure this is a good plan of action for Cameron.
Other than that, Cameron has all next week off, though I suspect he may be back at work by the end of it, unless he overdoes things this weekend.
Glad to hear he's recovering.
ReplyDeleteI'm confused as to why they were fawning over his groin... and I'm not sure I wanna know.
ReplyDeleteI said they were fawning over Cameron, not his groin. They did have to constantly check his groin as the the catheters used in the procedure are inserted through the femoral arteries in his groin. The sites must be checked often to ensure he doesn't bleed out - he is on blood thinners after all.
ReplyDeleteCatheters in the groin... Yeah he's going through heart surgery but ow!
ReplyDeleteAlso, kill those bitches! He's your broken man!
